Literature Text

Once upon a time, in the grimy land
Of despondent browns and greys,
There lived a boy about your age
With bright green eyes and soft brown hair.

He was a prince in his own special land
That was somehow apart from the
Dreary everyday browns and greys.
Where the sky was blue, the grass grew green.

And flowers bloomed beneath each
Gentle ray from great golden suns.
Over this glorious land he reigned
But grew lonely, and the flowers wilted.

Now in this time, in the grimy land
Of despondent greys and browns,
There lived a girl about his age
With dull grey eyes and lank blond hair.

She was her father's princess, his pride.
He kept her locked safe in cages of convention
Coloured in dreary greys and browns.
Her sun was gold, though her sky it was grey.

Her flowers had wilted and withered long ago.
Despite the meagre glow from her golden sun.
In this wearing world she reigned under a guided hand
Until they clashed and collided, he abandoned
His gleaming kingdom to rescue her world.
Theme: sacrifice

The awkward squad are really being awkward with me today.
Those familiar with Clare will know what I mean by 'the awkward squad'
